ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties agree on internal changes, but both the main stakeholders—the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)—have different strategies to achieve the desired goal, sources said on Wednesday.
Behind-the-scenes conversations with senior members of the PDM and PPP revealed that the PDM and PPP insist that coalition partners and disgruntled members of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) once a no-confidence motion is moved. Come forward and support it.
“Nawaz Sharif thoroughly discussed this approach with PMLN president Shahbaz Sharif, senior party members and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and then formed an opinion that the no-confidence motion should not be introduced until coalition partners and dissident elements publicly parted ways with the government.
“The stand of Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman is completely opposite to that of the PPP leaders. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was the person who had first proposed in the last PDM meeting that he should approach the alliance partners and discuss internal changes with them.
Sources said Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif supported his proposal and then the PDM decided that it would talk to the coalition partners and try to persuade them to support the no-confidence motion against the government.
He said that Nawaz Sharif engaged with party members and Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday morning before the PDM meeting, "Nawaz Sharif spoke to several members of the party including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and then he directly called Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Before the meeting, it was decided that the PDM would not make any announcement regarding the no-confidence motion.
The sources also claimed that the PPP wanted to seriously address issues including in-house change strategy, name of the next prime minister and duration of interim setup and that it was in constant direct or indirect contact with Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur. Was. Rahman for developing a unified stand in this regard.
He also alleged that former President Asif Ali Zardari had completely aligned him with 'powerful quarters', due to which Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman were cautious and even some doubts about their intentions. Were.
Political pundits are also giving importance to the meeting between former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair and Nawaz Sharif in London before the PDM meeting. In recent days it emerged that Muhammad Zubair held two meetings with the top man of the military establishment and discussed issues related to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
Speaking to The News about the changes in the house, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said: "We are very clear in our policy that we will not bring a no-confidence motion unless we are 100 percent sure."
“All PDM leaders including Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman are of the view that we should use the no-confidence motion card only when we get the required numbers for its success in the National Assembly. These figures may be achieved anytime soon but I will not make any predictions in this regard.
When contacted, PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said: "We have conveyed to the PMLN and JUI-F that if new interim arrangements are made, the assemblies should be dissolved in the 'shortest possible time' "The shortest possible time could be one month, two months, or six months. We have to undo many things wrongly done by Imran led government.
Responding to a question, he said, 'I have no information about the contacts between Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif. But I can say that political leaders usually talk to each other to discuss political issues." This correspondent tried to get in touch with JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah but he was not available for comment.
