Sony has announced that by 2026, it plans to release ten live-service PlayStation games.
Sony discussed its acquisition of Bungie during a recent earnings call (via VGC), revealing that it plans to release 10 live service titles by 2026, leveraging Bungie's expertise in the genre. .
During the call, Sony's Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki said, "It is our strong desire that our studio will learn from Bungie, the Bungie side is willing to work closely with us."
This doesn't mean that Bungie will be working on any of these live service games, but it is likely that the studio's "major new IP", described as a "multiplayer action game", will be included in the release schedule. will be included.
While Sony hasn't confirmed whether these games will be released on the PS5, it looks like this is the company's most recent hardware — whether they'll be released on the PS4 (or other platform) is less certain. Bungie's new IP is likely to at least make its way to other platforms.
"We want the expansion of the world we're building to make people play games anywhere," Bungie said in its FAQ regarding the recent Sony acquisition. “We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and run an integrated Bungie community,” the company says.

While the existence of these live service games is yet to be confirmed, we do know that several Sony studios are currently working on multiplayer projects with live service elements.
For one thing, as mentioned earlier, Bungie is working on a new IP outside the Destiny universe, the studio's first new IP in nearly a decade. The new game will be a "multiplayer action game" according to a previous job posting, and is rumored to be called 'Matter' after the studio registered the name as a trademark.
The game appeared in development in early 2021, with a job listing referring to it as "incubation". While this hasn't been confirmed, it appears likely, judging by Bungie's experience and Sony's push into the live service space.
While the new Bungie IP is most likely to be a live service game, PlayStation Studios is working on some multiplayer projects that appear to be ready for live service as well. Insomniac Games, makers of Marvel's Spider-Man, and Soccer Punch, makers of Ghost of Tsushima, were both hiring for a multiplayer project in 2021, while Naughty Dog was working on its "first standalone multiplayer." We also know that Sony has teamed up with Deviant Games, a studio made up of ex-Treyarch devs, to work on a new IP (which we expect to be a multiplayer shooter), and that PlayStation and Firewalk Studios have partnered for a new multiplayer IP.
If all of these games include a live service element (which is not certain at this time) then four games are left unaccounted for. We're expecting Sony to reveal more details about its plans for the Live service in the coming months, but it likely won't do so until its Bungie acquisition is complete.
