ECP instructs administration, police to stop PM's rally in Lower Dir

 


Peshawar: Pakistan's Election Commission (ECP) has directed the Lower Deir administration and police to implement and stop a proposed code of conduct by the ruling party to be addressed by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Timargara on January 27.

Another letter demanded cancellation of KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan's visit to Upper Dir today (Tuesday).

The second phase of local body elections has been scheduled for March 27 in the remaining districts of the state. Lower Dir and Upper Dir are among the districts where LG elections are being held in this phase.

An ECP official said a letter from District Election Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal directed the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Dir and the District Police Officer to stop a proposed public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in Timargara on January 27 Gave. "After the announcement of the election schedule in an area, the President, PM, Governor, CM, Speaker or Speaker of the Senate and Assembly, Federal or Provincial Cabinet members, advisors or any public office holder shall not visit the area, announce any development or Will not inaugurate any project or campaign for any candidate where elections are being held," said the letter by the regional election commissioner to the chiefs of district administration and police.

The officers were directed that the above para obliges them to follow the instructions of the ECP and stop the proposed public meeting.

"Failure to implement the code of conduct and instructions by the ECP will be considered a violation and will be taken up under Sections 233, 234 of the Election Act," said the letter to the DCs and DPOs.

It also directed that the matter should be considered as most urgent for the conduct of free and fair elections. Meanwhile, in response to a letter, the Chief Minister's Secretariat was informed that the schedule for the LG elections in Upper Dir district has already been announced on January 20. Provincial election commissioner Mohammad Razik's letter has asked for the trip to be cancelled. To ensure the conduct of free and fair elections in the upper dir of the Chief Minister.

The Election Commissioner wrote to the Speaker of the Senate as well as Speakers of the NA and KP assemblies, asking their members to follow the ECP instructions regarding the code of conduct during the LG elections in KP.
