ECP releases schedule for second phase of KP LG election


 ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday released the schedule for the second phase of local government (LG) elections in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), fixing March 27 as the polling day.

As per the schedule, the Returning Officers will issue a public notice inviting nomination papers on February 04, followed by the filing of nomination papers from February 07 to February 11, while the list of nominated candidates will be released the next day.

The returning officers will scrutinize the nomination papers for three days on February 14-16 while the appeals against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers will be filed on February 17-19. The last date for decision on appeals by the Appellate Tribunal is February 22, while they can start their work from February 17 except Sundays.

The revised list of candidates will be published on February 23, while the last date for withdrawal of candidates and publication of the revised list has been fixed as February 25. Election symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates and their final list will be published in February. 28.

During the second phase, local body elections will be held in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Batagram, Torghar, Kohistan Upper and Kohistan Lower, Kolai Palas Kohistan, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Lower Dir, Chitral Lower and Chitral Upper, Kurram, Orakzai, North. Waziristan and South Waziristan.
