Lahore: The HRCP has welcomed the decision of the Lahore High Court to outlaw the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project on the ground that it violated the Land Acquisition Act 1893. Civil society actors who have challenged the project in court and along with the HRCP, argued that the HRCP's statement that the project would deprive local farmers of their land and livelihood, has served the public interest well. . "We hope that this will set a precedent to ensure that the fundamental rights of the people are not violated in the interests of questionable development projects," it said.
