West Indian cricketer in awe of PSL

 


KARACHI: Despite being less lucrative than its Indian rival, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been hailed by foreign cricketers as one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

In an exclusive interview with Geo News, West Indies cricketer Johnson Charles of Multan Sultans said that he is looking forward to score some runs against the tough bowling in the PSL.

“I am very excited for the tournament to begin. This is one of the best tournaments ever. So, I am really looking forward to take more challenges for it. And to have fun with the Multan Sultans family,” St. Lucia The 33-year-old cricketer said.

“It is one of the toughest tournaments the bowlers have to face, they have the wealth of the best bowlers in the world. So as a batsman, if you can perform in this tournament, you can consider yourself quite good, (Because it was very difficult to score quality of bowlers in PSL, Pakistan.) So, I am definitely out. I want to come And scored some runs for the Multan family and against the Pakistani bowlers too,” the top-order batsman said while hoping for his side to defend the title.

When asked about his goals in the tournament, Charles said that he wants to be among the top scorers of the league.

“One of my goals in all tournaments is definitely, as a batsman, to be the top scorer in the league. So, that would be number one. And I also want to cash in at least one hundred in the tournament, which will be the second century. I don't set too many goals. I don't aim for too many, (but they can be reachable). So, these are the two goals I am looking forward to,” he mentioned.

Johnson said that earlier he had gone to Pakistan for just one match in the PSL and this time he is here for the entire tournament.

The West Indies cricketer said that he was looking forward to seeing the beauty of Pakistan, but the pandemic has confined him to a bio-secure bubble and he is unable to go out.

"It's disappointing that I can't really go out to see the beauty of Pakistan, that's something I've been really waiting for, but it's like that. So we just have to do what we have to do." And to make PSL a success."

Talking about the COVID-19 situation, he said: "It is difficult not only for humans but for any organism that it has to be banned as it is not natural. But given that the world That's how things are going in me."

He agreed that the situation has taken a toll on the mental health of the players, adding that there are players who had to leave the tournament as they cannot handle the mental pressure.

“It puts a lot of mental pressure on your mind because like I said, it is not natural for us humans to be limited. So, it puts a load on the mental capacity of the players but we have to fight it,” he expressed.

'Rizwan is a great player'

He also praised his Multan Sultans captain and Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan and called him a great person and a great player.

The player lauded Rizwan and said: “He is just going from strength to strength. It shows what rewards you get when you work hard and I am happy for that. I hope he does better this year. And congratulations to them for the hard work they put in. He is a wonderful human being. And I just want him to continue."
