10 Best Scorers In Dallas Mavericks History: Luka Doncic Already Shows His Greatness

The Dallas Mavericks franchise is built on the principles of success, teamwork and professionalism. As one of the most well-run organizations in basketball, the Mavericks are led by the charismatic owner Mark Cuban. Trying to make Cuban a competitor every year, the Mavericks are consistently a team that grounds big-name stars and also holds onto their franchise base.

That's why we saw Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki complete 21 seasons with the franchise, eventually leading the team to its first NBA title in 2011. Even though they have won only one championship in their history, the Mavericks have been a consistent playoff team thanks to their consistent All-Star talent. For now, the Mavericks are hoping for another championship run thanks to their superstar Luka Doncic. Here are the 10 greatest scorers in Dallas Mavericks history, and there will certainly be some familiar faces in the top-5.

10. Harrison Barnes - 18.7 ppg

(3 seasons, 2017-2019)

Harrison Barnes was made expendable for salary cap purposes after the Golden State Warriors signed superstar Kevin Durant to their already talented roster. As much as Barnes was a two-pronged player for the Great Warriors, he was a necessary sacrifice for a player of Durant's caliber.

Barnes spent 3 seasons with the Mavericks, averaging a career-high 19.2 PPG in his first season shooting 46.8%. His second season was almost as good, placing 18.9ppg and 6.1rpg on 44.5% shooting. Swingman was sold to the Sacramento Kings in his third season.

9. Monta Ellis - 19.0 PPG

(2 seasons, 2014-2015)

Recognized as a key player for the "We Believe" Warriors, Monta Ellis won Most Improved Player during the 2007 season when the Dallas Mavericks were upset in the first round. A lightning-quick guard with superb scoring ability, Ellis was always a threat on the court at any given time.

After his stints with the Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks, Ellis played for the Mavericks at the ages of 28 and 29. The guard averaged 19.0 ppg and 18.9 ppg in both seasons, a 44.8% off-field average. These will be the last two strong seasons for Ellis who will be playing his final season at the age of 31.

8. Rolando Blackman - 19.2 PPG

(11 seasons, 1982–1992)

One of the best Dallas Mavericks players of all time, Rolando Blackman was a 6'6" shooting guard with excellent offensive firepower. The guard made the All-Star team with Dallas 4 times, averaging above 19 ppg each time.

In his 11-year career with the Mavericks, Blackman averaged at least 19 ppg 7 times. The Panama City-born man was extremely consistent at putting the ball into the net and was one of the key pieces behind the Mavericks' first conference final in their history in 1988.

7. Jim Jackson - 19.6 ppg

(5 seasons, 1993-1997)

A 6'6" scorer, Jim Jackson had a strong first season putting in 16.3 PPG in just 28 games. The following season began his 3-year run at an average of at least 19 PPG, his career-high in Year 3. was coming.

Jackson put a career-high 25.7 PPG in his third season, scoring 47.2% off the field and 31.8% from the three-point line. A solid shooter who likes to step up his shots, Jim Jackson made a strong start to his career with the benefit of the Dallas Mavericks franchise which saw him drafted No. 4 overall in the 1992 draft.

6. Michael Finlay - 19.8 ppg

(9 seasons, 1997-2005)

One of the most important pieces to the Mavericks franchise in the early 2000s, Michael Finlay was a very consistent scorer for his team. Finlay was immediately tasked with being the go-to scorer in his first season at Dallas, averaging 21.5ppg on 44.9% shooting at 41.4mpg.

Finale would go on to average at least 40 mpg for three more seasons, making the All-Star team twice and at least 20 mpg each time. Once Finlay started in his 30s, his downfall began, which is why he joined Spurs and eventually won a championship with them. There is no doubt that Finlay is one of the most valuable members of the Mavericks organization looking back on his career.

5. Jamal Mashburn - 19.9 PPG

(4 seasons, 1994-1997)

Jamal Mashburn came into the league with few expectations as he was picked No. 4 overall in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. The young man certainly had a great start when making the all-rookie team, putting in 19.2 PPG.

A 6'8" short forward, Mashburn mixed a versatile all-around game with athleticism. That's why he averaged 24.1 PPG in his second season, followed by 23.4 PPG in Year 3. Again. Also, the incredibly hot start to his career is that he is the top-5 scorer in Mavericks history in terms of PPG average.

4. Cristapes Porzingis - 20.0 ppg

(3 seasons, 2020-2022)

Kevin O'Connor blasts Kristaps Porzingis—"Mavs paid him $30M for having more than a long wing that shoots 3s yet that's all he is now."

Even though Kristaps Porzingis was traded before this year's trading deadline, Big Man was a pretty consistent scorer throughout his 3-year run with the team. The former No. 4 overall pick averaged 20.4 PPG in his first season with the team, accounting for 35.2% of his threes.

It began to become increasingly clear that Porzingis had not been able to rediscover his All-Star form with the New York Knicks following his ACL injury, and fans began to become frustrated with the big man's game in his second season. Even though Porzingis was putting up 19 consecutive PPGs, he was not the right fit for the Mavericks, who needed a co-star for Luka Doncic.

3. Dirk Nowitzki - 20.7ppg

(21 seasons, 1999–2019)

The greatest Dallas Mavericks player of all time, Dirk Nowitzki has built new ground as a sharpshooting biggie with superstar influence. The big German achieved everything in the game for the Mavericks, winning the MVP award in 2007, as well as making 14 All-Star teams and 12 All-NBA teams.

Armed with one of the most unstoppable shots ever, Dirk is also one of the purest scorers the game has ever seen. During his 21 years with the Mavericks, Dirk shot 47.1% off the field, 38.0% off three, and 87.9% off the strip. Dirk is also the only man to lead Dallas to their first championship in 2011.

2. Mark Aguirre - 24.6 PPG

(8 seasons, 1982-1989)

One of the brightest Mavericks stars of all time, Mark Aguirre was a prolific scorer for most of his career. A 6'6" short forward, Aguirre was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1981 draft with the No. 1 overall pick. He started his rookie season with an impressive average of 18.7 PPG.

Aguirre went on to have an illustrious career with the Mavericks, qualifying as an All-Star for 6 years averaging at least 22 PPG. The forward made 3 All-Star teams in each year at an average of 29.5 PPG, 25.7 PPG, and 25.1 PPG. Even though Aguirre would win two of his championships with the Detroit Pistons after being traded by Dallas, he is undoubtedly one of the Mavericks' best scorers.

1. Luka Doncic - 26.0ppg

(4 seasons, 2019-2022)

The current Superstar and future Hall of Famer of the Dallas Mavericks organization, Luka Doncic, has made a tremendous start to his franchise. The Slovenian is a rare talent as he has the ability to score, rebound and pass at an elite level.

Already a leader and one of the top-10 players in the game, Luca has averaged over 20ppg for 4 consecutive years. Doncic averaged 21.2 PPG in his rookie season on his way to the Rookie of the Year award, followed by an average of 28.8 PPG in his second year. This season, Luca is putting in 27.5ppg and has a chance to possibly rival what Dirk Nowitzki did for the franchise after his career ended.
