Analyst Sounds off on Draymond Green’s HOF Candidacy

Before missing out on the last six-plus weeks of action, Drummond Green was running a stellar campaign for the Golden State Warriors. He remains a player who can score 8-10 points, rebounds and assists as well as some blocks and steals every night. More than that, though, his effective field goal percentage of 56.7 is a career-high and he's playing like a DPOY.

So, when Green was named an All-Star for the fourth time this season, it wasn't exactly a shocking development.

With Green still garnering accolades and filling box scores in Year 10, the question of his Hall of Fame candidacy is more relevant than ever. On the basketball context, his HOF probability score checks in at 59.7%. However, many would say that he is a lock of prestige.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated's Ben Steinar becomes the latest hoops pundit to go a step further.

First Ballot Draw ?

On Saturday, Steinar posed a question about Green's HOF candidacy that was really more than a proclamation, tweeting, "We can all agree that Drummond Green is a first ballot HOF'er... OK? "

Again, he isn't the first to say that Green is the one and will be done. And the concept is one that is becoming increasingly difficult to argue against.

In NBA history, only four players have recorded a career average of eight-plus points, four-plus rebounds, four or more assists, and at least one block and one steal per game. One of them, Chris Webber, is already a HOFer. Two more - Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo - are among the top 25 players in league history and are certainly the first voted people.

The other is green, and he's clearing some of those points a lot.

Then there's his All-Star nods, his three championships, six All-Defensive team selections, two All-NBA selections, and a DPOY trophy to consider. Also – he is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, a first team All-American as a collegiate.

Despite all this, not everyone agrees with Steinar's assessment. And a lot of people who weren't happy to tell him about it.

Speak contradictory

Steinar's tweet received a wide variety of responses, many of them serving as checkmarks in the yes column. That said, there were more than a few people who came to argue against Green as HOFer:

"Talk about someone who got the most out of playing with the Hall of Famers in his entire career," tweeted one fan.

"Glorious roleplaying player is only good when Steph and Kel play," wrote another.

“No. He is a piece of a great team but not a great player. He can never be the man of the winning team ever. He is Robert Horry,” declared a third fan.

“No, he is great in his role but Hof no. Although being objective there is already a lot in which you can say he should be in the over. IMO though he is a great warrior but not Hoff,” a Fourth respondent added.
