It has been well documented that the departure of All-NBA point guard Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2017 free agency period was not all peaches and cream. Especially his relationship with All-Star forward Blake Griffin. The bad blood between Paul and the franchise almost ended in his first visit to Staples Center during the 2017–18 season. Things got heated during a matchup between the Houston Rockets and Clippers that nearly broke out in the locker room after the game ended. A Rockets player who remains unidentified to this day discovered a secret door that led to the Clippers locker room, at which point a group of Houston players entered to contact team members. Blake Griffin talks about what happened after the incident.
"We were where we needed to be," Griffin told reporters via "SLAM." "We were in our locker room. So, whatever happens, over there, I mean, we can't control what someone else does. We control what we do. Everyone was in our seats. and that is all. You should ask them."
