PSL 2022: Shahid Afridi requests for rest from Quetta Gladiators’ management

Shahid Afridi did not attend the practice session at the High-Performance Center today

Karachi: Quetta Gladiators star all-rounder Shahid Afridi has sought rest from his team's management after losing the most runs in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history.

Shahid Afridi conceded 67 runs in a four-over spell against Islamabad United on Thursday to become the most expensive bowler in the history of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Earlier, Zafar Gohar of Islamabad United had the record of giving the most runs - 65.

It is pertinent to mention here that Afridi did not attend the practice session at the High-Performance Centre, sources said.

On February 3, Afridi, who had returned to the team after completing COVID-19 isolation, could not bowl well.

The former Pakistan captain bowled a total of four overs in which he conceded 67 runs and managed to take only one wicket. His costliest over was the last over (20th), in which he conceded 20 runs.

However, Twitterati lashed out at Shahid Afridi and extended support to the star cricketer.

It should be noted that this was the first match of Afridi's departure PSL after missing the opening games due to COVID-19 but was taken to the cleaners by United batsmen Colin Munro and Azam Khan.

New Zealand batsman Colin Munro hit three sixes in his first over, while Azam Khan hit two sixes in his third over and three in his fourth over before he took his wicket.

Munro hit two consecutive sixes as Afridi scored 18 runs in his first over. While he went for 10 in his second over, but in the second ball, Munro hit a big six at long on.

One user said, 'It is painful to see people who have seen Boom Boom #ShahidAfridi at its peak, bowl like this. There is no shadow of what he was a decade ago. Be the strong champion. ,

Another said, "Boom boom, hero, don't be sad. You're always a winner."
