"That clause exists," confirmed the Roma director, confirming Chelsea's inclusion of a buy-back clause in Tammy Abraham's contract.

AS Roma director Tiago Pinto has confirmed that Chelsea included a buy-back clause in Tammy Abraham's transfer to the Serie A club last summer.

The Englishman signed a €40 million deal to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of last season. For the Rome-based club, Abraham has 17 goals in all competitions, ten of which come in Serie A.

Pinto said of Abraham's contract during a press conference after the close of the January transfer window:

"Yes, that clause exists, but we are unconvinced." It only lasts until 2023, but that doesn't matter to me. I am happy because he is performing well and has the potential to improve."

“Abrahams has a buyback clause in his contract, but it will not be valid this summer – I don’t worry, we are happy with Tammy and he is doing great,” says AS Roma director Tiago Pinto. ;;;;;;;;;;#ASRomaChelsea has a €80 million buyout clause that will start in July 2023. #CFC https://t.co/2prD2duV8W

Chelsea signed Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku for a club-record fee of €113 million to replace their academy graduate. Lukaku, on the other hand, has struggled to maintain consistency, scoring only eight goals in 24 games in all competitions. He also hinted at moving away from Stamford Bridge in the future.

If Lukaku decides to leave, the Blues have a plan B. Chelsea have a buy-back clause in Abraham's contract, as confirmed by Pinto. However, this clause will not take effect until 2023. If Lukaku leaves Stamford before the end of the season, they will be unable to bring him back.

Although the director of Roma did not disclose the amount of Abraham's clause, it is believed to be in the range of €80 million. If Abraham develops into a powerful goalscorer, the Blues can exercise that option.

So far, Abraham has 17 goals and assists in 30 appearances in four different competitions. In his last six league games, the 24-year-old forward has scored six times, including in braces against Atlanta and Empoli.

If all goes according to plan, Chelsea will be able to re-sign a proven goalscorer who will turn 25 in 2023.

In February, Chelsea are involved in five tournaments.

In February, Chelsea will compete in five different competitions. On 5 February the Blues will return from their international break to face Plymouth Argyll in an FA Cup match. They will then travel to the United Arab Emirates for the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will play their semi-finals on 9 February.

In addition, the Carabao Cup final is due for Thomas Tuchel's side at the end of the month. On 27 February, they will play Liverpool in a championship match at Wembley Stadium.

During the month, the Blues have Premier League games as well as a Champions League round of 16 against Lille, the first leg of which will take place on 22 February.
