Garth Brooks will headline Protective Stadium's first concert this year.
The country music legend announced that his 2022 stadium tour will stop at the new Birmingham venue on Saturday, June 4 at 7 pm.
It is the first show at the Protective, as well as Brooks' first appearance in Birmingham in seven years. The downtown stadium, 1020 24th St. North, can hold approximately 45,000–50,000 people, depending on seating arrangement and use of the area.
Tickets go on sale Friday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Central. The concert will feature in-the-round seating. There will be an eight-ticket limit per purchase. You can purchase tickets online through Ticketmaster, at the Garth Brooks Line, 1-877-654-2784, or through the Ticketmaster app.
Tickets will cost $98.95. The musician's website notes that the tour will comply with all state and venue COVID-19 regulations.
Alabama Gov. Ivey released a statement Wednesday morning regarding Garth Brooks' announcement.
"You can blame it on our roots when we show up in shoes to welcome Garth Brooks to Alabama Clay on June 4 for the first concert of the new Protective Stadium," Ivey said. "I am proud to be Garth at Sweet Home Alabama and know that Alabamaians and people around the world will warmly welcome this country's legend to Birmingham this summer."
Brooks, 60, is a favorite in Birmingham, and has a long base of fans across the state. Like many artists, the country star put his touring agenda on hold during the coronavirus pandemic, but he will be back on the road this year with a tour of the stadium, with dates from April to September.
In addition to Birmingham, southern cities on Brooks' agenda include Nashville (April 15-16); Fayetteville, Arkansas (April 23); Baton Rouge, Louisiana (April 30); and Charlotte, North Carolina (July 15-16). Some of these are the make-up dates for the shows postponed during COVID.
According to his website, Brooks will end the tour in September with five shows at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland.
