Olivia Bentley Details Her Own Struggles With Alopecia, Says 'Chris Rock's Joke Was Clearly Not Funny'
Detailing his own struggles with baldness, the reality TV star said that the comedian's joke was poorly timed and personal.
Referring to Will Smith's outrage during the awards ceremony, Bentley said in an interview with The Sun, "I do not condone violence - and I would not suggest for a second that physical aggression is the way forward."
He talked about how hard it must have been for the King Richard actor to watch his wife's pain while he learned to live with the autoimmune disorder.
"I know how it feels to be ashamed of hair loss — I've been there and know how raw it can feel," Bentley said. "I've been bullied and trolled for my alopecia journey, which is when I started taking the pill when I was 16."
She further revealed her own struggles, saying, "I managed to hide my hair loss pretty well in school, but when I joined Made in Chelsea in 2016 at the age of 19, the trolling started. Went."
"People constantly made (derogatory) comments, like, 'Her hair looks (derogatory)', or, 'Why does her hair look like this?'"
Bentley commends Pinkett for having the courage not to wear a wig to hide his condition as he slammed Chris for trying to humiliate him with a lame joke.
“Chris’ joke was clearly not funny. It was only last year that Jada decided to embrace her hair loss and shave her head after revealing her condition in 2018,” Bentley continued.
"To those who say Chris didn't know about his alopecia, let me say this: When is it right to dig in about other people's appearances?"
She concluded, "Chris' joke was a bad one. There was no justification for being slapped, but it caused an uproar all around."
