Royal expert Victoria Arbiter noted that the Sussexes have missed a golden opportunity to mend their rift with the splinter clan after abandoning the Jubilee pageant.
Ms Arbiter told Sunrise: "I think what is telling is that Harry and Meghan were not at the Palace concert on Saturday night.
"They weren't into the spectacle, and that speaks to the frost that's going on there.
"It wasn't a weekend in which there was going to be a lot of time for this family to get together and talk behind the scenes.
"This family needs that private time behind the scenes, but the schedule was incredibly intense."
She continued: "So I guess some people were hoping they could stay with a family for a few days for some private bonding time and maybe a chance to talk about their difficulties.
"But Harry and Megan left for California on Sunday before the competition started.
"So I think yes, there is tension going on, but to resolve this, all parties have to talk and maybe they're not ready yet."
