Megxit may see Prince Charles 'marginalize' his siblings in 'transitional' monarchy

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's megaxit has forced Prince Charles to build a 'firewall' on becoming king.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl recently spoke to Vanity Fair in an interview, explaining how different royal generations see Meghan Markle leaving the UK.

"The challenge is that there is a generational divide and we saw that, especially after Megxit.

“The older generation saw Meghan and Harry leaving as a betrayal, but the younger generation had no problem with that.

"In some ways, it is the younger generation that need to be reassured that there may be a place for hereditary monarchy in modern society."

Host Erin Vanderhof then asked: "What would Charles do?

“His approach to a slender royal family is well known, but what does this mean for his nieces and nephews who are already in the public eye?

"Is he willing to reduce family participation in public events in order to have a firewall between the monarchs?

"When I spoke to Sally Bedell Smith she said that Charles wanted to marginalize his siblings a little more than before, but he still needed Edward and Anne.

"We know his mother isn't going to have a reign for long, so he has to think things through in advance."

Ms Nicholl said: "Because he is already in his 70s, Charles will be a transitional monarch.

"He might never celebrate a jubilee. Still, he'd like to do something different and make an impact.

"I think we'll see him use his powers," experts say.
