Prince William, Kate's controversial Caribbean tour cost taxpayers so much money

Prince William and Kate Middleton's tour of the Caribbean, which sparked a massive response to showcasing 'huge colonial undertones', revealed that it cost the taxpayer a whopping £226,000.

The Duke and Duchess received heavy criticism for their eight-day visit to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas in March.

The couple was also pictured traveling in an open-top Land Rover that was manned by Jamaican soldiers.

However, royal fans suggested that it "looked like a scene from The Crown".

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the royal family spent a total of £102.4 million in the last financial year, up 17 percent from the previous year.

Most of the spending money was spent on the major ten-year program of Buckingham Palace's ongoing renovation.

It was reported that around £54.6 million – a 41 per cent increase in expenses, had been snuffed out by the renovation alone.

The Sovereign Grant report showed a rise in travel costs for the Royal Family from £1.3m to £4.5m as in-person royal visits resumed after the pandemic.
