Prince William's comment on racism, at the unveiling of a national monument to the Windrush generation, is inviting criticism from experts.
The Duke of Cambridge, who slammed racism in his new speech, was reminded of the 'ironic' time sister-in-law Meghan Markle was bullied for the color of her skin.
Peter Hunt, a former correspondent and presenter, wrote on Twitter: "A royal invocation of racism - Prince William at the unveiling of a national monument to the Windrush generation."
William said racism is "all too familiar" to black people in Britain.
“We know without a doubt that the Windrush generation has enriched our culture, strengthened our services, and made our fellow countrymen safer.
“Unfortunately, the same is the case for members of the Windrush generation, who were victims of racism when they arrived here, and discrimination remains a very familiar experience for black men and women in the UK in 2022. Only a few years ago, It is a matter of tens of thousands. Thousands of people of that generation were deeply harmed by the Windrush scandal. This rightly resonates with the Caribbean community in Britain as well as many in the Caribbean.
“Therefore, as well as celebrating the diverse fabric of our families, our communities and our society – something that the Windrush generation has contributed – it is also important to acknowledge the ways in which the future they seek We are doing and deserve what it is not yet. Diversity is what makes us strong, and it is what reflects the modern, outward-looking values ??that are so important to our country."
Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan expressed her grief when she witnessed racism at the hands of Prince Harry's family.
She said: "In the months when I was pregnant [there were] concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born."
Harry continued: "That conversation, I'm never going to share. It was weird at the time, I was a little shocked."
