The 66-year-old model filed in a California court seeking 91-year-old media mogul Murdoch's support for unspecified spouses and attorneys' fees.
Hall said in the petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that she was "ignored of the full nature and extent of all (Murdoch's) assets and debts, and would amend this petition upon learning of the information."
She also asked the court to nullify her ability to be able to support Murdoch.
Murdoch and Hall married in March 2016 in a modest ceremony at Spencer House in central London. This was Murdoch's fourth marriage.
The New York Times reported in June that the expected divorce would be unlikely to change the ownership structure of the businesses in which he holds a stake.
