CDA to start public transport system in Islamabad based on 2017 census

 


ISLAMABAD: The Federal Commission has decided to introduce a mass transport system for the federal capital based on the 2017 National Census.

In the 10th meeting of the Federal Commission held here under the chairmanship of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed, it was decided that the Department of Statistics would appoint a focal person to provide relevant information to the Federal Commission and the Planning Commission. For the 2017 census in Islamabad.

This exercise was needed to determine the viable routes and number of buses for the mass transit system in Islamabad that was being planned. It was also decided in the meeting to appoint National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAC) as consultant for the mass transit project to provide quality transport service to the residents of Islamabad. The advisory will update the study taking into account the latest data on population and households in Islamabad. The commission also discussed proposals to allow construction of additional storeys in an already existing building. However, the final decision was deferred until further information, analysis and car parking space is available.

It was decided in the meeting that the permission for additional floors would not be limited to certain areas but would have a uniform policy in this regard for the federal capital. Meanwhile, the CDA has also shifted a 4,000 feet long water pipeline from the construction site of 7th Avenue Interchange within a period of 10 days to ensure supply of water to the consumers residing in sectors G-6 and G-7. Similarly, the work of shifting of water pipelines from the sites of 10th Avenue and Rawal Dam interchange was also in progress. In addition, a CDA official said that the authority will also complete the water supply network for the low-income housing scheme of Alipore Farash within the next three months.
