SBP Bill passed: JI chief says opposition parties played the role of facilitator

Peshawar: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haque on Sunday said opposition parties played the role of facilitator of the government by abstaining from the Senate to pass a bill on the autonomy of the State Bank of Pakistan.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Khatam-e-Bukhari Sharif in Darul Uloom Talimul Quran at Sakhakot in Malakand district, the JI chief said the opposition parties have failed to play the role of true opposition. He said major opposition parties should pay attention to the absence of their senators from the House at the time of voting.

The function was also addressed by the party's provincial head Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and others. The JI chief said the government has already gone bankrupt and handing over of the State Bank of Pakistan to the International Monetary Fund has raised serious questions about the sovereignty of the country.

He said that after the tough situation of the IMF, the problems of the people will increase manifold. The JI chief said the government had received a record loan of USD 10.04 billion during the last six years of his rule, which is 78 per cent more than the last six months of his own government.

The country is now on the verge of bankruptcy. If we have to get rid of IMF and other international organizations, we have to own Islamic financial system instead of usury based system,” he said, adding that through system of Zakat we can get rid of foreign debt and strengthen . our economy."

Sirajul Haque said that during the 74 years of rule in the country, three major parties and military dictators could not do anything. He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf proved to be the worst among them, which broke all records of taking loans and corruption during the three-year rule.

He said that due to the faulty policies of the present rulers, the poor people of the country have been deprived of two meals a day. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami is the only political party in the country, which has the ability to change the system and bring the country out of the current difficult situation. Speaking on the occasion, Mustaq Ahmed Khan said that Transparency International in its report has exposed the real face of the rulers. "The present rulers have miserably failed to control corruption, rather the corrupt practices have shown a sharp rise during the three-year rule of the PTI government," he said.

He said corruption in the Malam Jabba scam, the Billion Tree Tsunami Project and the Bus Rapid Transit Project could not be investigated, causing dismay among the people.

He said that the PTI government has failed to fulfill the promises made to the people. It also proved to be a complete failure in all spheres of governance. "Therefore, it has lost the justification for sticking to the government," he said.
