'Lord of the Rings' actor Pete Smith dies

 


Lord of the Rings actor Pete Smith has died at the age of 63, his family confirmed on Sunday.

According to his son Pomau Smith, Pete died on Saturday after battling kidney ailment.

He told local media in New Zealand, "For the last seven years, he was on dialysis, which affected him for years. He was also diagnosed with dementia within the last two years.

“We started doing dialysis at home but in the last few weeks he suffered an infection which he fought for the last four weeks.”

Smith made his acting debut in 1985 and was best known for his roles in Once Were Warriors and The Piano.

He also starred in 2003's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
