PTI foreign funding case: ECP directive yet to be implemented

 


ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has passed a directive to make public the documents of State Bank of Pakistan in the PTI foreign funding case. The directive is still waiting to be implemented.

It may be recalled that in the previous hearing of the PTI foreign funding case on January 18, the ECP had reversed the orders of the inquiry committee to classify parts of its report which contained certified PTI documents and through the State Bank of Pakistan. This correspondent called the ECP Director General Law to find out whether the ECP directive was complied with. However, he neither attended the call nor replied to the message sent on his WhatsApp number.

ECP sources said that the application included a request to the petitioner's lawyers to share all the documents at the earliest to enable them to effectively assist the ECP in the next hearing to be held on February 1. The issue of confidentiality was resolved when the ECP decided on 18 January that "no part of the report of the Inquiry Committee shall be kept secret". However, some documents have remained secret until now.
