SBP notification: Goods clearance suspended at Pak-Afghan border, say businessmen

 


Peshawar: Businessmen associated with Pakistan-Afghan trade have said that commercial activities between the two countries have been suspended as border officials stopped the clearance of goods trucks in view of a notification issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). .

In a joint press statement issued here on Friday, Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, President, Bhoomi Marg Standing Committee of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Imtiyaz Ahmed Al and Shahid Hussain, Vice President of the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that Bilateral trade between the two countries has come down drastically.

He urged the SBP to review its notification which had stopped the clearance of goods. Traders said the SBP, in its first notification, had allowed exports to Afghanistan after receiving payments in dollars from Afghan traders.

However, he said, later another notification was issued in which the last date was changed from December 31 to December 13, stopping the clearance of goods laden trucks at Torkham border post.
