Prince Harry is being asked to follow the example of King Edward when he abdicated the throne and exiled himself
As The New York Post reports, Prince Harry is being asked to follow the example of King Edward when he abdicated the throne to his wife Wallis Simpson and exiled himself from the UK.
Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and have since moved to the US in what became known as Megxit, and their position has been compared to King Edward VIII and Wallis by royal expert Andrew Looney Made by Simpson.
Edward famously stepped down as King after falling in love with Simpson, an American who had divorced her first husband and was in the process of divorcing her second. He was then made Duke of Windsor.
Writing for The New York Post, Lonnie said: "In 1936, Edward stepped down from royal duties to live abroad – but he never reconciled himself to the loss of his position, and the years to come with him was to be marked by a series of controversies.
He continued: "The first [controversy] was over security, which Buckingham Palace felt the Duke of Windsor should pay for itself. Despite the wrangling, he eventually enjoyed police protection until his death – a privilege only. was given to the Sussexes in Britain."
Loni further explained: “The second was more than finance. Like Prince Harry, the Duke of Windsor had inherited considerable wealth - as well as savings from the Duchy of Cornwall estates - but this did not stop him complaining, like Harry, that he was financially cut off.
"Both issues contributed to a breakdown of trust, and the Duke and Harry both complained of poor upbringing, differences between siblings and sisters – Elizabeth Keval Wallis, wife of King George VL, referred to as 'The Woman' - and the allegation that the 'evil royal' was trying to elevate the dutiful man," he shared.
Lonnie then warned that with all the similarities in their affairs, Harry and Meghan could be as 'frozen' from the royal family as the Windsors were.
The expert wrote: "The Windsors were frozen by the royal family. It will be interesting to see if the same strategy is applied against the Sussexes."
