Donnie Gerard dead: Skylark lead singer best known for hit track Wildflower Passersby

 The lead singer of the band Skylark has died, his niece confirmed.


Donnie Gerrard, 75, was best known for his number one hit Wildflowers which he had with the Canadian band.

However, on Thursday the star's niece, Kimberly Christian, confirmed that the singer had passed away.

"My uncle, Donnie Gerard," she wrote in a Facebook post. Words cannot express my sadness at this time. Rest in peace."

The cause of death has not been disclosed yet.

Gerard rose to fame with a band that centered around then-keyboardist David Foster.

The band was responsible for the single Wildflower, which spent 21 weeks on the Billboard charts.

The track became an R&B hit and has been covered by several artists including The O'Jays, Lisa Fisher and Silk.

He also recorded the 1985 charity single for African Famine Relief, Tears Are Not Enough, with the likes of Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.

His last known work before his passing was released in 2018 as We Get By.
