Envolver: Anita becomes first Brazilian to top Spotify global charts

Pop star Anita from Rio de Janeiro on Friday became the first Brazilian to top Spotify's daily global charts with her song "Envolver", according to Reuters.

The song reached number 1 in the daily global top 50 chart following an online campaign by the singer and other Brazilian celebrities. "Envolver" had 6.4 million streams on Friday and 71.6 million since its November release.

Born in Rio de Janeiro slum, Anita has become one of Brazil's most famous pop stars. "Envolver", sung in Spanish instead of its native Portuguese, is part of its strategy to expand its brand globally.

"No. 1 in the world. I really don't know what to say. First Latin woman to have a number one single in the world. The only Brazilian in the history of my country to have a top 5 song in the world. Oh my god," she said. K wrote on Twitter after reaching the stone.

"Envolver" is ranked 19th on Billboard's weekly Global 200 list, up from 82nd in the previous week, making it the biggest gainer.
