HBO reportedly slammed social media giants for selling their customers' information
HBO has been called out in a shocking allegation for selling its customers' information to the social media giant.
Burser & Fisher law firm has issued a class action lawsuit on behalf of two of HBO's clients, Angel McDaniel and Constance Simon.
According to Variety, their lawsuit alleges that HBO provided Facebook with a list of its subscribers, and at the same time gave them access to their viewing habits.
It further cites the issue of consent under the Video Privacy Protection Act passed in 1988.
For those, the lawsuit turned into a class action because Facebook is a major advertiser for HBO and used consumer information to retarget customers with this leak.
HBO has revealed that they share cookies with partners to offer personalized ads by VPPA, video viewing history requires separate consent.
