Academy goes into 'full crisis mode' amid calls to snatch Will Smith's Oscar

Academy holds an emergency meeting to consider action against Will Smith

Will Smith's slap on the stage at the Oscars 2022 reportedly sent the Academy into a frenzy, which called an emergency meeting to consider action against the King Richard actor.

According to The Sun, organizers 'went into full crisis mode' after publicly condemning Smith for slapping Chris Rock.

“Once the ceremony was over, they called on key members to hold an emergency meeting to see what action they should take,” a source told the outlet, “there have been calls to strip their Best Actor gong. "

"He can't be seen contemplating violence in any way and there are some people in the Academy who feel that he should take away the award from him for having his say.

"Others believe he should be allowed to hold onto it," the insider said.

“Chris was immediately supported backstage and offered a package of aftercare where he could speak to professionals provided by the academy if needed.

"The Academy is taking this incredibly seriously," the source concluded.

Meanwhile, the Academy announced on April 8 that Smith would not be allowed to participate in the Academy's events for 10 years.
