Nepra cuts electricity duty by Rs 0.99 per unit on quarterly adjustment


 ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Napar) has reduced the tariff of distribution companies by Rs 0.99 per unit for the fourth quarter (April-June) 2020-21 as part of quarterly adjustment.

“The entire decision of the Authority in the matter of requests filed by XWDISCO for periodic adjustments in tariff for the fourth quarter of FY 2011 has already been communicated to the Ministry of Power (Power Division) on 30th December, 2021, to be received within three months. notified for recovery. Period with effect from 1st February, 2022,” read the notification issued by the electricity regulator.

Consumers will be given relief on the bills of February, March and April respectively. In a statement issued by Nepra, it has been said that the increased rates will not be applicable to those domestic consumers who have consumed 200 or less units of electricity.

It is pertinent to mention here that the impact of reduction of Rs 0.99 per unit would be around Rs 24 billion. On Wednesday, the country's electricity regulator had approved a reduction of Rs 0.76 per unit cost of electricity on account of fuel duty adjustment (FCA) for November 2021.

The regulator approved reduction in power tariff by Rs 0.7591 per kWh on account of November FCA. According to the notification issued in this regard, consumers will be given relief in the bills of February 2022.
