What are Prince William's chances of securing the title Prince of Wales?

Prince William is currently set to take over the British monarchy after his grandmother, the Queen, and father, Prince Charles, but will he ever receive the title of the coveted Prince of Wales? According to Express UK, the decision is entirely up to Charles.

As the outlet reports, despite Prince William working hard to step into his final role as monarch in recent years, the decision to grant him the title Prince of Wales ultimately fell on Prince Charles's shoulders.

Royal tradition dictates that the heir to the throne bear the title of Prince of Wales, however, this is not a title that is inherited, but rather a gift.

To better explain, Express UK shared that Charles and William have been first and second in line to the throne since their birth, with the title of Prince of Wales only bestowed on Charles by the Queen in 1958.

Although Prince William is expected to eventually acquire the coveted title sometime in his life, it will depend on his father Charles as king and he very well could take the title back from him!

If Prince Charles dies before the Queen, according to royal tradition, the Queen will decide whether William should be the next Prince of Wales!

Other titles that are sure to automatically descend into William's lap after Charles becomes king include Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay.
