Umerkot singer Nirmala Maghani, who claims to have the original rights to the track Tu Jhoom from Coke Studio Season 14, does not want money from the lawsuit.
The song, sung by Abida Parveen and Naseebo Lal for the first episode of the popular show, has come under fire after Nirmala accused the song's composer Zulfi of plagiarizing her tune.
Nirmala claims that the melody of the song was sent back to Zulfi in the hope of getting her big break in June 2021. Zulfy, who was unresponsive at the time, suddenly came to Coke Studio a year later with the same track.
To the contrary, Zulfi Express denies all such claims in a written statement with the Tribune.
“I build and collaborate in a spirit of inclusivity and my work with Coke Studio keeps the same philosophy,” he began.
“I am grateful and humbled to receive requests from many talented artists for collaborations from across Pakistan, as are the many producers before me. However, I cannot say that my work for CS is borrowed from such shared samples I found,” he said.
"I look forward to having the privilege of hearing Nirmala Manghani's songs in person and possibly coming together for further collaboration: Our young talented artists across Pakistan are our future," the statement said.
In a follow-up statement, Zulfi said: "My work is not without credit or credit, noting that what I share with the world is work that depends on the very essence of partnership and collaboration. I hope That it will be evident throughout my work throughout my career."
Meanwhile, Nirmala, who has won the support of many amidst her plagiarism claims, says she will accept whatever the law decides after a fair trial.
She said, 'Whatever the court decides, I will accept it.
