"Tomorrow, February 6, 1952, marks the 70th anniversary of my accession. It is a day that, after 70 years, I still remember as much for the death of my father, King George VI, as for my reign. For the beginning.

As we mark this anniversary, I am happy to reiterate to you the pledge I made in 1947 that my life will always be dedicated to your service.

As I look forward to the year of our Platinum Jubilee with a sense of hope and optimism, I remember how grateful we can be for it. These last seven decades have seen extraordinary progress socially, technologically and culturally, benefiting all of us; And I am confident that the future will provide equal opportunities for us, and especially for the younger generation in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.

I am fortunate to have the steadfast and loving support of my family.

I was blessed that I had a partner in Prince Philip who was willing to take on the role of wife and selflessly make the sacrifices that go with it. This is a role that I have seen my mother do during my father's reign.

This anniversary also gives me time to reflect on the goodwill shown to me over the years by people of all nationalities, religions and ages in this country and around the world. I would like to express my thanks to all of you for your support. I am eternally grateful and humbled for the loyalty and affection you continue to give me. And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me; And it is my heartfelt wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her faithful service.

And so while I look forward to continuing to serve you wholeheartedly, I hope that this jubilee will bring families and friends, neighbors and communities together – after some difficult times for many of us – of celebrations. To enjoy and reflect on the positive developments in our day-to-day lives that coincide very happily with my regime."
