Jackson's layoff propels Clippers to 111-110 win over Lakers

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Reggie Jackson isn't surprised to see Los Angeles Clippers come down to the game strings, especially against his arena co-tenants.

"We just want to give the fans value for their money," he said.

Jackson scored 25 points, including a driving layup with four seconds remaining, and the Clippers held on to a 111-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.

Four major changes occurred in the final 30 seconds, including Jackson's winning basket. Anthony Davis, who led the Lakers with 30 points and 17 rebounds, had a chance to win it, but missed a running floater after time ran out.

Davis was clearly disappointed afterward and said that he saw the shot seven times before going into the interview room.

"The ball touched every part of the rim. You couldn't ask for a better look," said Davis, who had at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in back-to-back games for the seventh time in his career. Was out then. Tough, tough game. ,

Marcus Morris Sr. led the Clippers with 29 points, while Serge Ibaka added 20 points and nine rebounds. Morris scored six 3-pointers, one from the left corner, giving the Clippers a 109-108 advantage with 18 seconds remaining. The Lakers took the lead on Davis' dunk before Jackson's decisive layoff.

Jackson - who had 10 points in the last 12 minutes - took an inbound pass and went to the midcourt line. He then went down to the left and overtook Austin Reeves and Russell Westbrook.

“We have confidence in ourselves, in how we play and our approach to the game. We never really bothered,” Jackson said.

The Clippers have three wins since January 11, when they are at least 24 points behind. But on Thursday, they took a 17-point lead while the Lakers had four minutes to spare in the third quarter.

“I thought it was a good chess match. Coach (Frank) Vogel did a good job trying to keep me off balance,” said Clippers coach Tyrone Lew.

Malik Monk scored 21 points for the Lakers and Westbrook scored 17 points. Monk's 3-pointer gave the Lakers a 108-106 lead with 28.1 seconds.

The Clippers have won two of their last three, even up to their record of 27–27. The win also gave them a 1 1/2-game lead over the Lakers to place them eighth in the Western Conference. The Clippers overtook Denver by 2 1/2 games to get the sixth seed, who would avoid participating in the play-in tournament.

The Lakers (25-28), who have played only one game in the lineup since December 17 with both Davis and LeBron James, have dropped four of their last five.

"It's a tough defeat because they're ahead of us," Davis said. "We have to keep plugging away. There is no moral victory and no one feels sorry for us. We have to find a way."

The Clippers have won both meetings this season, and 30 of the last 37. They had a six-point advantage at halftime and took an 84-67 lead at 10 before outscoring the Lakers 24-13 in the first eight minutes of the third quarter. Eight points from Jackson and eight points from Morris.

The Lakers went 94-78 in the final minute of the third quarter and rallied to 12 straight points, including six from Westbrook, to get back in the game.

The Clippers were able to push the lead back to 104-97 with 3:27 before the Lakers scored eight straight points, including an 11-foot jumper by Westbrook to lead 105-104 with 63 seconds .

There were 11 lead changes and 10 ties in the first half, before the Clippers closed the half for 9–3 runs and took a 60–54 halftime advantage.
