With the latest updates, Windows 11 gets a free performance boost.

According to a new report, Windows 11 has finally fixed all those serious drive slowdown issues that have been plaguing some users for quite some time now.

Even though these issues were fixed with the December cumulative update for Windows 11, as we reported at the time, some users were still experiencing drive sluggishness after installing the patch.

According to my own testing and other anecdotal evidence online, the full fix has been delivered with the most recent preview patch for Windows 11 — namely KB5008353 — and all users should be happy. "Addresses a performance regression issue that occurs when Update Sequence Number (USN) Journal is enabled," Microsoft writes in the update notes.

USN Journal keeps track of file changes on your hard drive, so it can be tied to any remaining performance issues. "I installed KB5008353 and my OS drive NVME random write speed is about 3.5x faster," speculates one Reddit user.

"Not only on NVMe, but my SATA SSD is now faster too," said another Microsoft Feedback Hub user. Previously, Windows 11 was slower to start than Windows 10."

This patch also addresses another major issue that caused color glitches on some HDR monitors.

The patch addresses a "known issue that may prevent some image editing programs from correctly rendering colors on some high dynamic range (HDR) displays," according to Microsoft.

That's why there's no whitish yellow anymore in image editing apps, or other visual disturbances.

KB5008353 is currently in testing as a preview update, but it will be released in full as the February cumulative update (next week, to be exact).

Analysis: The overall performance of the system has improved dramatically.

It's obviously a relief that the drive speed bug has finally been fixed - at least, we hope so - as it can significantly degrade performance and has been a major issue for some users. . Of course, a solution for color misbehavior on HDR monitors is also much appreciated, and has arrived relatively quickly.

On the other hand, the wait for a solution to the drive performance problem is too long, and it is disappointing that the cure that appeared since December 2021 is not fully working.

This preview update contains several significant improvements, including "certain issues that affect File Explorer's performance when you browse for files and select files" and "reliability issues that cause File Explorer and desktop context menus to work." stop doing it," included. Other than those two major ones.

"No more delay in opening the context menu!" As a Reddit user explains in the above thread. In general, there will be no further delay. The Start menu is also immediately visible. It was one of the minor troubles of W11, but I believe I am satisfied with it now."

“There are many reports from insiders that this update is a huge increase in system responsiveness, I just installed it, and can confirm that too,” agrees another Redditor.
