Lakers James will sit out against Spurs with left knee pain

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James will miss Monday's match against the San Antonio Spurs after suffering a sore left knee after a 56-point effort against the Golden State Warriors. James' third-highest score propelled the Lakers to a much-needed victory on Saturday night, losing four straight and eight for seven before James scored a season-high shooting 19-for-31. James has missed 17 matches this season due to various injuries including stomach and ankle ailments. In his 19th season, James averaged 29.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists for the Lakers, entering the season alongside James and Anthony Davis in a star-studded lineup with Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony. But they are ninth in the Western Conference and may have to win two play-in games to make it to the playoffs. Spurs coach Greg Popovich entered a winning contest, tying Don Nelson for the most regular season wins in league history.

San Antonio, which has lost four straight, would be without guard Devin Wassell and reserves Lonnie Walker IV and Keita Bates-Diop. All three are suffering from diseases that are not COVID-19
