Prince William wanted to hide his identity in college
Prince William avoided distraction in college by giving himself a new name.
The Duke of Cambridge attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland, where he gave himself a nickname, Steve, to hide his true identity.
As Mirror.co.uk reports, "Although he officially enrolled at the university under the name William Wells, it is believed that his classmates used the surname, so he did not receive any unwanted attention. "
St Andrews was where Wills first met Kate Middleton. The two were flatmates for some time before finding love in each other.
According to royal writer Katie Nicholl, "Kate threw herself into the uni life, having fun and partying with friends, and by the end of Fresher's Week, she was called 'Beautiful Kate'." For this name, the Duchess of Cambridge was quick to attract William's attention.
"A friend of the couple said they became "instant companions" when William mustered up the courage to invite his friends over for breakfast," says Mirror.
