The Golden State Warriors have finally found themselves back in the winning column after a five-straight loss.
The Golden State Warriors have finally taken the taste of defeat out of their mouths.
After losing five straight games on Tuesday night, the Warriors found themselves back in the winning column after defeating the Los Angeles Clippers, 112-97, at the Chase Center in front of a home crowd. 21 points behind rookie Jonathan Cuminga and 20 points behind Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson, the Warriors broke their biggest losing streak of the season.
It's been quite a struggle for Golden State, courtesy of the Utah Jazz, after losing nine of their last 11 games, cursing on February 9. While that tenure saw several blown leads and poor defensive execution, Tuesday came as Golden State's finest performance in nearly a month.
Holding the Clippers to shoot only 35-cents from the floor, the Warriors rediscovered a defensive effort that earned them the No. 1 defensive efficiency ranking earlier this season.
From fighting inside shots near the rim to sprinting to perimeter shooters at the three-point line, Golden State was up against a Clippers offense that scored a season-high 142 points just two weeks ago.
Perhaps the brightest spot for the Warriors was Poole, who scored more than 20 points for the fourth-straight game. Poole has featured in 36 games so far this season, including 28-straight to start the season. Following the return of Klay Thompson in early February, however, Michigan Product has been removed from the bench for the Warriors to contribute.
In addition to the pool, the Warriors received 20 points from Thompson, who struggled in the opening round. However, locating the range late, Thomson ended the game shooting 9-for-23 overall.
Cuminga, who was Golden State's leading scorer, was a plus-10 off the bench for the Warriors. Hitting a pair of triples, Kuminga also hit five of his six free throws
Stephen Curry, who had 15 points, also became the Warriors' all-time leader (1,361), surpassing Warriors legend Chris Mullen on that list.
With the much-needed win, the Warriors are just half a game behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The next match for Golden State will be Thursday night's matchup against the Denver Nuggets in Denver - their second meeting in three games.
