Meghan Markle drops another royal patronage

Meghan Markle has penned a touching letter after her animal charity protection ended.

British animal welfare charity The Mayhew confirmed on Wednesday that Meghan Markle's royal patronage has ended after three years.

In the letter, the Duchess of Sussex wrote about the passing of dog trainer and behaviorist Ollie Juste, a friend who introduced her to the charity in 2018 and helped care for her dog Guy after an accident. In his memory, Meghan and Mayhew will create a wing named after him.

Below are the full details of Meghan's letter:

"My dear friend, animal behaviorist, Ollie Juste, introduced me to Mayu. We shared, among many things, a commitment to animal welfare and a deep love for rescue dogs. In fact, it was Ollie and her fiancée Rob who did. Helped look after my rescue dog, Cow, when I had just moved to the UK and he was recovering from a debilitating accident. They loved him like his own.

About four years ago, when I was researching potential organizations to volunteer for, Ollie brought me to Mayhew. He knew that beyond his adoption and rescue programs, his international work to keep animals safe, and his local work to find abandoned pet homes, that I would draw on his deep love of community, One who transcends the animals themselves, and extends to the people around them. he was right. I fell in love with Mayhew and soon became his royal patron.

When my three-year tutelage at Mayu ended earlier this year, I reflected on the work he had achieved in the most difficult times—with minimal resources during a global pandemic, of staff from his stations in Afghanistan. Stand firm in your vital day-to-day work for animal and human welfare throughout London and around the world.

Every day there was another twist, every week another update—to which Ollie and I would add: “What can we do? How else can we do? Look at the amazing work they continue to do. ,

My dear friend Oli passed away tragically and very suddenly on January 15, 2022. It has left me, and many others, heartbroken and reflective—knowing that the legacy he leaves for our furry friends is beautifully simple: just love them. Especially those who have been left behind or forgotten. In his memory, we will build the Ollie Just Wing at Mayoo to provide shelter to animals that may have a hard time finding their forever homes. Because like Ollie, he will never be forgotten, and he will always be loved.

Although my time as Mayu's mentor has come to an end, my unwavering support has not. I encourage each one of you to support in whatever way you are able. The emotional support of a rescue animal is unparalleled—as you'll soon realize: It's not you who save them, it's they who save you.

To the Mayu community, thank you for entrusting me as your mentor. It has been an honour.

as always,

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex."
