Prince Harry's Invictus Games Foundation confirms death of three members in Ukraine

The Invictus Games Foundation said in a statement on Friday that three more members of the Ukrainian Invictus community were killed in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"Our thoughts are with their families, teammates and the wider community," said the organization founded by Prince Harry.

That said, both Dmitry Olyannik and Vladimir Motelchuk died in the rocket attacks on Mykolaiv on March 29. Sergei Smilin died in service on March 18, he was buried on March 31.

"Our thoughts are with his family, teammates and the wider community," the statement said.

The Invictus Games Ukrainian team said last month that if it weren't for the Russian attack, they would still be training for the upcoming Games.

"Instead, we have to defend the country while Russia continues to bomb our peaceful cities," the team said in a statement.

Britain's Prince Harry, the founder of the Invictus Games and patron of the Invictus Games Foundation, had to cancel the event entirely in 2020 due to the pandemic and postpone them again in 2021.

The Invictus Games will now officially return in 2022, from April 16 to 22, and will take place in The Hague, Netherlands.

Last month, a statement issued on the Archwell Foundation said: "Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archwell stand with the people of Ukraine and the global community against this violation of international and humanitarian law." Let's encourage leaders to do the same."
