Queen asks Prince Charles to be regent amid health problems
Queen Elizabeth II is urged to officially hand over the crown to Prince Charles.
Royal expert Robert Jobson noted that the Queen's exit from Maundy Day service shows the 95-year-old needs to transfer powers to the heir-in-waiting Prince of Wales.
"I'm surprised they haven't been nominated to be honest," he says. "With all due respect to Her Majesty, you can't really be the Emperor of Zoom. There are roles you have to play. You have to be seen to be believed.
“There is ample scope within the Regency Act to make the Prince of Wales regent and I don’t think that would be a bad thing – we have two popes,” he says.
"If it becomes a year down to a situation where we don't see the Queen at all and she can't do anything ... none of us would want her to have to do it all at 96, 97."
Commenting on the Queen's recent engagements on Zoom, expert Kate Mansey added: "If you can only see the Queen as mechanical, as she says, on Zoom, you have to wonder how this is going to progress."
