Streaming platform Netflix said on Sunday it has decided to stop work on Meghan Markle's family series "Pearl" as it reviews animated content.

Archwell Productions, the company founded by Markle and her husband Prince Harry, said in July last year that she would be an executive producer of "Pearl."

The series was to be centered on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by influential women in history.

Prince Harry and Meghan's statement read: "Archwell Productions is making its first animated series with Netflix. Pearl (working title) centers on a young girl's heroic adventure as she learns to step into her own power and... Inspired by influential women throughout history.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex will serve as executive producer on the series alongside David Furnish, Caroline Soper, Liz Garbus, Dan Kogan and Amanda Rinda.

"Like many girls of her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life's daily challenges. I'm thrilled to partner with Archwell Productions, Netflix's powerhouse platform, and These incredible creators bring you this new animated series that celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.

“David Furnish and I look forward to bringing this special series to light, and I am delighted that we are able to announce it today”, said Meghan when the series was first announced.
