Prince Charles dedicates heart to Queen on birth anniversary

Prince Charles has chosen a very special dedication to his mother Queen Elizabeth's 70-year-old monarchy

Prince Charles has chosen a very special dedication for his mother, Queen Elizabeth, to mark 70 years on the British throne.

The Prince of Wales announced on Sunday that a collection of 70 ancient woodlands and 70 ancient trees will be dedicated to the Queen for her Platinum Jubilee this year.

Standing under the old sycamore at Dumfries House in Scotland, the Prince of Wales explained that Britain's forests were 'depleting and must be nourished' by planting new trees.

Charles said: "I believe it is absolutely vital that we do our best to nurture our historical heritage through careful management and, in the case of woodlands, that we can expand them and connect them to other natural features like our hedgerows."

"And if we are to make the 'ancient' trees of the future, we will have to plant more trees in fences, in fields, in churches and along pathways."

He continued: "These working forests and magnificent trees are spread throughout the wonderful landscape of our country and exist for everyone's enjoyment."

According to reports, trees and forests to be dedicated to the Queen include Five Hundred Acre Wood in Sussex, the inspiration behind 100 Acre Wood in Winnie the Pooh, as well as Boscobel Oak in Shropshire.

Another tree dedicated to the 96-year-old monarch is the yew tree at the north entrance of St Edward's Church in Gloucestershire, and Sir Isaac Newton's apple tree in the gardens of Woolstrop Manor in Lincolnshire.

Charles also said: "We need to replenish these precious, dwindling possessions for future generations and for our dwindling landscapes and towns."
