Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Louis are models of 'modern monarchy', claims expert

The Cambridge-led royal family will be "so much more fun and so much more relevant"

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are set to become central figures within the monarchy.

A royal expert has claimed the Cambridge-led royal family will be "so much more fun and so much more relevant" in the future.

Speaking to The Daily Beast after the Platinum Jubilee, royal expert and 'The Last Queen' author Clive Irving mentioned the Cambridge children's participation in the ceremony.

He said: "The Cambridge children are a model of a very modern monarchy. They are as spontaneous and genuine as we saw again on Sunday, and they are enjoying the quality of parenting that Charles never did, Which is part of their problem (though it was a lovely moment when Louis went to get down on his grandfather's knee)

The expert said, "If only Cambridge were, in fact, the next Windsor monarchy, it would have been a lot more fun and a lot more relevant. It raised my sense that the Windsors live in a kind of strange time machine."

“Charles is sitting comfortably in the eighteenth century, the Queen, as I said, the epitome of the twentieth century, and Cambridge as a whole belongs to this time and century. The institution is about to break down along the same lines.”

Mr Irving's comments are reflected in a recent YouGov poll that tracked the popularity of members of the royal family.
