Zhen Ecko speaks on the mental health journey
Singer Jayne Ecko recently opened up about her mental health struggles and how music has helped her healing journey.
Speaking to People, the Sativa hit-maker said that music was always her way of "combat".
"Since I can really write, I've been dealing with my emotions through writing. That was always my way of getting through difficult things. Even when I was in elementary school, if I really I was angry or really worried about something, I would write about it, ”said the singer.
Aiko reveals that her brother's death has driven her into depression. "I started self-medicating and drinking and trying to deal with that," she said.
The R&B crooner later told the publication that he had been diagnosed with anxiety, after which he turned to "different forms of treatment such as therapy by Buddhist monks and reading books".
The singer-songwriter mentioned that it was because of her daughter Namiko that she realized he had to do it for her.
The singer said, "When I was her age I saw her go through a lot of things and I told her, when I'm feeling anxious or angry, it takes me 34 years to learn some techniques "
The fact is, Aiko adds, she's a teenager and so, "You need to be a rebel. She's going to listen to me one day, so I'll keep saying it and setting an example."
"I think we're all on a mental health journey because we all have physical health, but our well-being is very important. It's just as important, and they really go hand in hand," she concluded.
