American pop star Gwen Stefani landed in hot water: Here's why

Gwen Stefani appears in Light My Fire music video

Gwen Stefani has recently been in trouble after appearing in a music video for her new song Light My Fire with Sean Paul and Jamaican singer Shansy.

As Page Six reports, the No Doubt alum can be seen donning dreadlocks as well as a green and yellow outfit that matches the flag of Jamaica as he dances to the music.

Reportedly, this entire look sparked accusations of "cultural appropriation" on Twitter after the song premiered on Wednesday.

One user wrote, "Gwen Stefani is back with a cultural appropriation banger."

Another quipped, "Ahhhhh Gwen Stefani goes back to her Jamaican roots. Nature is really healing."

Someone else wrote, "Gwen Stefani has seen awesome twists in that video as well. I'm screaming right. She's seen all the tweets saying her cultural appropriation era is over and she said BET."

Earlier in 2019, the songstress responded to backlash about culture appropriation in a Billboard interview.

"I get a little defensive when people call it culture appropriation, because if we don't allow each other to share our cultures, what will we be?" he said.

"You take pride in your culture and have traditions, and then you share them to build new things," Stephanie said.
