Jay Z says he hasn't retired: 'I'm not actively making music'

Jay Z weighs in on his plans for the future

Jay Z has addressed the rumors that he has retired from music, saying he is 'terrible' at the time of retirement.

During a conversation with Kevin Hart on Heart to Heart, the 24-time Grammy Award winner talks about his plans for the future.

"I don't know what happens next. I'm not actively making music, making an album or planning on making an album, but I never want to say I'm retired. It is a gift and who am I to take it off?" The rapper said.

Jay Z announced his retirement from hip-hop in 2003, but soon returned to the scene in 2006 with another album, Kingdom Come.

"I tried that [retirement]. I'm terrible at that. I just needed a break. But I really thought I was really burned out at the time," the rapper explained.

"I was releasing an album every year — '97, '98 — and then in between, soundtracks, other people's albums, Roc-a-Fella, touring back to back... and I just saw a day and I was like... 'I'm tired'," he said.
