Noah Schnapp says it's '100% clear' that Will loves Mike Wheeler
Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp has confirmed that his character Will Byers is gay, after previously saying that his sexuality was 'up to the audience's interpretation'.
In an interview with Variety, 17-year-old Schnapp said, "Obviously, it was hinted at in the first season. It was always kind of like that, but you never really knew, was it more than just your friends. Growing slow?"
The latest more vividly depicts Will's struggle with his identity and his feelings for best friend Mike Wheeler.
"Now that he's older, they've made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it's 100% clear that he's gay and that he loves Mike. But before, it was a slow arc, Schnap said.
Referencing episode eight, where Will talks to Mike (Finn Wolfhard) about his girlfriend Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) during a car ride and then weeps silently while staring out the window, Schnapp said that That scene "consolidated" the fact that Will is in love with Mike and doesn't know how to express that feeling.
He further expressed his hope that Will's sexuality would be addressed more openly in the show's next season. “There are a lot of different things that they have to address. Obviously, we look forward to the scene to come,” he said.
