 Lahore/Rawalpindi: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Wednesday removed Rawalpindi's commissioner, deputy commissioner and 13 other officials in connection with the Murri tragedy, which resulted in the death of at least 23 tourists.

The decision was taken after a five-member inquiry committee into the Murri incident submitted its inquiry report to the Chief Minister of Punjab. The inquiry report revealed that the officers concerned failed to discharge their duties. Rawalpindi Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Muri Assistant Commissioner, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO), Muri Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Rawalpindi Traffic DSP, Rawalpindi SE Highway Circle II, Rawalpindi XEN Highway, Muri SDO Highway Mechanical, Muri Divisional Forest Officer, Muri Rescue 1122 In-charge, Muri District Emergency Officer and Director of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab have been immediately removed, and disciplinary action has been recommended against them.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, CM Buzdar said, "I promised nation action against those responsible for Muri tragedy and I fulfilled my promise." The CM said in the press conference, 'In the light of the recommendations of the inquiry committee, action is being taken by removing 15 officers from their posts.

He said that the Rawalpindi commissioner has been removed from his post and sent to the federal government. The DC of Rawalpindi has also been removed and his services have been handed over to the Central Government. It has been recommended to suspend him and take disciplinary action against him, he said.

He said that Muri Assistant Commissioner has been suspended and disciplinary action has been ordered against him. He further said that ASP Murree has been removed from his post and his services have also been handed over to the federal government. It has been recommended to suspend them and take disciplinary action against them. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqab Abbasi said that merely suspending the officials would not yield any tangible result and added that the truth about the Murri tragedy should be told to the country.
