Fakhar Zaman has also been included in the team; No Indian player was able to make the cut

 DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced the ODI squad for the year 2021, naming Pakistan skipper Babar Azam as the captain.

Left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman has also been included in the team but none of the Indian players could make it.

The 11-man squad also includes Ireland's Paul Stirling and Simi Singh, South Africa's Jaaneman Malan and Rassie van der Dussen, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk) and Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman, Sri Lanka's Vanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chamira.

The Pakistani captain was also declared the best T20 captain of the year 2021 by the ICC.

Despite playing only 6 matches in 2021, Babar still managed to score 405 runs at an average of 67.50 with two hundreds.

The talismanic Pakistan captain made significant contributions to the difficult tours of South Africa and England, with the former ending up with the Player of the Match award in both their victories.

He also scored a memorable century in Birmingham in conditions that helped the fast bowlers.

Zaman continued his stellar performances in Pakistan's ODI outfit in the year 2021. Playing 6 matches, he scored 365 runs at an average of 60.83 with two centuries.

One of the centuries came against South Africa, in an innings that will be remembered for ages. He scored 193 runs, chasing 342 in Johannesburg to almost take Pakistan home.

Pakistan's star player, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan and bowling sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi were also included in the T20I Team of the Year, but no Indian players were included in the squad.
