MQM-P, PPP trade barbs

KARACHI: In an unusual turn of events, the death of local MQM-P leader Muhammad Aslam turned into a mystery as the government claimed that he died of cardiac arrest, while the MQM was blaming police action for his demise. .

Following a showdown between MQM-P activists and the Sindh Police during the earlier protests against the Local Bodies Act, leaders of two mainstream parties of Sindh, PPP and MQM-P, engaged verbally and each other for disturbances. blamed.

Speaking at a press conference in the committee room of the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, Ghani said the deceased MQM activist Aslam had died of heart failure and did not die as a result of police torture. He said that the deceased MQM worker was first taken by his family to Karachi Cardiology Institute and later taken to NICVD where doctors declared him brought dead.

He said the deceased MQM worker should have been taken to the nearest Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center or Civil Hospital if he was injured outside the CM House. Ghani appealed to the family of the deceased MQM-P worker to allow a post-mortem of his body to be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

Ghani insisted that there was a well-thought-out plan behind the previous day's untoward incident to create negative consequences for international players participating in Pakistan Super League matches. He alleged that the MQM-P has a plan to spread caste division in Karachi and the recent statements of the party leaders are proof of this fact. “The MQM-P had on Wednesday announced to take out a protest rally from Sharai Faesal to protest at the Karachi Press Club and the opposition party was in touch with the city administration regarding their agitation plan.

“The city administration continued to facilitate the movement of the protest rally from Sharai Faisal to Metropole intersection, where it reached at 4 pm. Later it had to move towards the KPC as per the original protest plan. But the people involved in the rally suddenly decided to go towards CM House.

Ghani said the Deputy Commissioner of District South and other senior police officers informed MQM-P leaders Waseem Akhtar and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui that the area around CM House has been declared a high security zone due to the presence of international cricket. The players, who were staying in nearby hotels, said the administration advised the MQM-P leaders to stick to their original protest plan and go to the KPC for a protest, he said. The participants of the rally did not heed the advice of the administration as they crossed the roadblocks at the Metropole and reached outside the CM House. "Then what other option did we have as the PSL team that was nearby had to come out of the hotel and go for practice, but the players did not go anywhere due to the situation," he said. He said the incident was really unpleasant as it was not good for the Sindh government. He also recalled the statement of Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid in which he had said that the overall law and order situation in the country is not satisfactory.

Ghani also announced that the PPP had decided to postpone their upcoming protest sit-in outside the KPC on 30 January due to the sensitive security situation in the city due to PSL matches

Sindh's Information and Labor Minister Saeed Ghani said that though an untoward incident took place outside the CM House on Wednesday, the fact was that the police were left with no option but to act against the protesters for the sake of prestige and honour. Country.

Speaking to the media after the funeral, MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that Aslam died due to police torture which was seen by the whole country through the lens of TV cameras. He said that if someone comes with the intention of committing violence then how will he bring his mother, sisters, children and elders along. "Is there another party whose offices were closed and demolished?" He asked. Siddiqui claimed that over 100 party workers were missing and their whereabouts could not be traced.

“There are numerous videos in which Aslam can be seen battling the impact of a tear gas shell. His death was not due to delay in treatment but due to tear gas shelling and lathi charge.

Speaking to the media at the party's headquarters, MQM leader Aamir Khan said that all political parties have condemned the police brutality at the behest of the Sindh government outside the Chief Minister's residence against peaceful protesters. “PPP displayed its feudal mindset in Karachi. Such atrocities do not suit any democratic government. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami was also sitting in the Red Zone but the government was sending them food boxes. "Is there a fixed match being played with him?" He jibes.
